Guest Chef Nolan returnsNolan cooked my first guest chef dinner, and fresh from his travels in South America, returned for an encore. posted on Jul 16, 2007 11:32 pm (comment) Guest Chefs Matt and KsushaMatt and Ksusha starred as April's Guest Chefs, preparing the cuisine of Turkey. The fabulous salads and spreads were so delicious we just about filled up before the soup and main courses, not to mention the wonderful baklava for dessert (which was so good I forgot to photograph it). Matt picks up a cookbook from every country he visits, and his recent trip to Turkey to film a documentary was no exception.
Google, meanwhile, has installed a wall of storage bins full of LEGO bricks for engineers to play with. To kick off the creativity, Google commissioned a LEGO artist to build a LEGO Google logo. "Rather than build the logo out of standard rectangular LEGO bricks, Sean used the myriad of fun and crazy LEGO shapes that come in every standard LEGO kit... Wheels, doors, slopes, circles, hinges, trees, hats, coffee cups, fences, flags, and more." My favorite clever piece is a little LEGO person situated at the edge between the yellow 'o' and its orange shadow: his orange torso is firmly planted in orange territory, but he is leaning backward so his yellow head is over the line into yellow. posted on Apr 23, 2007 11:44 pm (comment) Artichoke parties and Tank partiesLife has been busy. I'm finally catching up on pictures from January, when Jen Donovan departed from The Tank with a fun party, and Danny cooked the latest incarnation of the Guest Chef series, featuring artichokes, the lobsters of the vegetable world (eating them requires extensive disassembly and involves dipping in butter, the edible part is a small minority of the overall mass, and they are delicious). posted on Mar 14, 2007 12:56 am (comment) Guest Chef ThomasinIn August, Nolan was visiting New York City. He wanted to host a dinner party for our mutual friends and is a good cook, but had no good place for people to gather. Meanwhile, I have a good space for entertaining but am not an experienced chef. Aha! And so the Guest Chef program was born.
Thomasin, currently studying to become a professional chef, volunteered to cook the next in what I hope will become a regular series, frequent enough that I can eventually include the many friends I wish I could invite. In the meantime, pictures! posted on Jan 29, 2007 11:33 pm (comment) | Blog ArchivesMost Popular Tags |
